Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are spread from person to person almost always through sexual activity. The term STD includes more than 25-30 infectious organisms, and they are most easily spread by vaginal or anal intercourse and sometimes through by oral sex. Some Sexually Transmitted Diseases can also be spread through blood, but this is more common among intravenous drug users who may be sharing needles or syringes. Women who are pregnant may pass their STD infection to their infants in the uterus, during birth or through breast-feeding.
