Ablation

The Group for Women of Hampton Roads offers a procedure known as ablation to relieve heavy menstrual bleeding in women. This process removes a thin layer of the uterus which in turn halts the menstrual flow or reduces to light or normal levels. Ablation is ideal for situations where:

• Heavy bleeding has not been reduced by medication alone
• A woman chooses not to have or cannot have a full hysterectomy to minimize bleeding
• Childbearing has ended and fertility is no longer desired.
