Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs)
The idea that you may have caught a sexually transmitted disease can prove frightening, frustrating and embarrassing. At The Group for Women there is no judgment. We are here to discreetly diagnose and treat your problem.
Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) are spread from person to person almost always through sexual activity. The term STD includes more than 25-30 infectious organisms, and they are most easily spread by vaginal or anal intercourse and sometimes through by oral sex. Some Sexually Transmitted Diseases can also be spread through blood, but this is more common among intravenous drug users who may be sharing needles or syringes. Women who are pregnant may pass their STD infection to their infants in the uterus, during birth or through breast-feeding.
Types of STDs include:
- Pelvic Inflammatory Disease
- Genital Warts
- Hepatitis B
- Hepatitis C
It is sometimes hard to recognize if you have an STD because most people have no symptoms. If you suspect that you have been exposed to an STD, it is important to notify your doctor and make an appointment to be tested and treated. Left untreated, STDs can lead to major health problems and even death.
Our experienced and compassionate team of doctors also offers counseling on protection during sexual activity and preventative care. You do not have to suffer alone. Call The Group for Women today at 757- 466-5751 to schedule your appointment.
