The Group for Women of Hampton Roads offers a procedure known as colposcopy to examine the cervix, vagina and vulva for possible signs of disease. Many times, this procedure is performed when a woman’s annual Pap smear results are abnormal. To better determine the cause of abnormal Pap results, your physician may want to perform a colposcopy to further examine.

This painless procedure should take around 10-15 minutes in our office. Through the use of a colposcope, a lighted microscope, our physicians are able to clearly see and evaluate in more detail. If the physician does find an issue during the procedure, a biopsy (small sample) may be taken from the cervix for further testing.
