Dr. Holly S. Puritz has been in private practice since 1987 with the Group for Women and still loves delivering babies.
She graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine and completed residency in OB/GYN at Eastern Virginia Medical School, where she is on the Clinical Faculty. She is President of her practice, a position she has held since 2007. She is the immediate past Chair for the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecologists and is on multiple national committees for ACOG. Currently she is serving as Vice Chair for the statewide Sentara Quality Care Network and is beginning a 4 year appointment to the Virginia Board of Health. She is an advocate for women’s health at the state and national level.
Dr. Puritz was recognized by the Medical Society of Virginia in 2013 with a Salute to Service Award for her statewide work with the March of Dimes and the Virginia Hospital Association in successful effort to help all maternity hospitals limit early elective inductions. She has lectured nationally and contributed a book chapter on patient safety and starting a safety program at community hospitals. She has recently been honored with ACOG’s district IV Outstanding Faculty Award and has been Top Doc in Hampton Roads for the last 10 years. Dr. Puritz was reappointed to the Virginia State Board of Health in 2020.
She and her husband, Dr. Steve Wohlgemuth, have a son and a daughter, both of whom have followed their parents into the health field.
